Something broken, confusing, or a word translated wrongly? Write to lantern@martasdx.cz. A translation report is genuinely useful — tell us the word and the language and it gets fixed for everyone.
That is the point. Lantern starts at your weakest language and lets you climb toward your own, so you find the exact edge of what you know instead of being told the answer.
Finish one practice round — ten words, a few minutes. That is the whole rule, and the first completed round of the day lights the night. Three rounds a day are free forever, so a streak never costs money to keep.
An ember is spent automatically to cover the gap. You hold two, and you earn one back for every fourteen nights lit in a row — you don't have to do anything, and they are never for sale.
If the embers have run out, a lightning can repair the run instead, but only if you have enough to cover every missed day, and only if you say yes. Lightning is earned, never bought: a strong round — one worth at least 80% of what those ten words would pay answered perfectly — has a small chance of catching one. Every lightning you hold also adds 5% to the sparks a round pays, up to five of them.
Three, free, resetting at midnight. You can watch a short video on the home screen for two more if you want them. Second Light is a one-time purchase that makes it five a day and removes the video offer entirely; Lightkeeper is a subscription with no limit at all.
Free opens three: animals, food and travel — 300 words, enough for a month of daily practice without repeating one. Second Light takes it to ten, and Lightkeeper opens all sixteen. The four seasonal packs — Christmas, New Year, Easter and Lunar New Year — open for a window around each holiday from Second Light upwards.
The packs each tier opens are fixed, so there is nothing to arrange and nothing to lose track of.
They climb twelve stages, from a single spark in the dark to daybreak, and the sky behind the app brightens as you go. There is nothing to spend them on and nothing locked behind them.
r = der, e = die, s = das — the short form used in Czech schools. A German noun learned without its gender is learned wrong, so the article is always there. It also disambiguates: r Morgen is morning, plain morgen is tomorrow.
The animals pack ships inside the app, so the first round always works. Everything else downloads the first time you have a connection. Keeping what you download is what Second Light adds — on the free tier the words are fetched for the session rather than stored.
iOS Settings › your name › Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel it. If you lost progress after reinstalling, make sure you are signed into the same Apple ID and that iCloud is enabled for Lantern in iOS Settings.
